Recently Vodafone India has launched an annual developer contest – Vodafone AppStar – that will enable a Indian mobile app developers to showcase their talent to a larger global audience. Vodafone is the first telecom operator to launch app developer contest. This announcement has been officially announced on there official site.
There will be Two levels of the contest, first will be "India" and second will be "International". For specific Indian contest there will be three major category under which developers can participate.
The contest will have three winners for all the above three categories and top 2 apps across all category will go to International Appstar contest which is going to be held in Kenya.
The winners in each of the 3 categories will receive Rs. 50,000 each, the runners-up will get Rs. 30,000 and third placed app will receive Rs. 20,000.

- Best Mobile App
- Best Local Language App
The contest Appstar is opened for all the app developer across the country. Main aim's of this contest is to encourage the developers to develops a apps that can work on any local condition (any local language, lower end phones).
Developer can develop apps on any mobile operating system platform, i.e. Blackberry, Android, iOS, Java or Windows phones.
To participate on this contets users have to signup and submit there ides on appStar contest website. Winner of the contest will be decided by the number of votes that each idea will generate.
AppStar Contest Prizes
The contest will have three winners for all the above three categories and top 2 apps across all category will go to International Appstar contest which is going to be held in Kenya.
The winners in each of the 3 categories will receive Rs. 50,000 each, the runners-up will get Rs. 30,000 and third placed app will receive Rs. 20,000.
On international contest, the top app developer will be awarded USD 12000, 2nd will be rewarded by USD $6000 and 3rd will have USD $4000.
